Week 14
This past weekend was Easter, and while many Americans were celebrating Jesus, North Korea was testing missiles and having some sort of military parade. On the same day I was celebrating Easter, many people in North Korea were celebrating Day of the Sun. I jus thought it was interesting how different it must be to live in a foreign country and celebrate the holidays they celebrate. However, I think there has been some discord between The U.S. and North Korea so the missiles are something we as Americans should be concerned about. That being said it does not mean we cannot respect other cultures and their holidays.

Week 13

This week, Trump ordered an Air Strike on a Syrian Air Base. This was in retaliation to the chemical terrorism that Assad has been using against his own people. There was a lot of discord about if this was the right move or not. I honestly didn't know, I don't have any background in militancy or war but it was nice to hear from a Syrian who was grateful for Trump's actions. He fled from Syria when he was only 17 years old. His opinion on the subject really matters to me because he has lived there and gives a different perspective on what the air strike means to the Syrians, or at least some of them.

Week 12

As I was on the bus, I overheard someone say that they "After talking to him on the phone, I knew he was black". I just thought it was interesting because I did not know you could hear color through the phone? I found this disheartening for two reasons. The first reason being that no one should be able to know your skin color by the way you sound. The second reason being that the way she said "I knew he was black" was so defining. By that I mean, to this girl, being black defined whoever she was talking to.

Week 11

As you probably already know, I-85 collapsed from a fire. However, this did not stop me from going to UGA Night at Six Flags. As I was sitting there in traffic, I looked around at all of the different types of people sitting in their cars around me. It reminded me that no matter how different we all are, we are all people just trying to get somewhere. No matter your religion, sexual orientation, or race, your life has been made more difficult because the interstate collapsed and here we all sit together, not moving, but all trying to go somewhere. Are we really all that different?

Week 10
As a woman, I find it beneficial to stay up-to-date with legislation dealing with women's healthcare. One that has been causing some disagreements, is the GOP Bill which is summarized in the article attached. One of the big things making some women upset is that this bill proposes to partially defund planned parenthood. I do not support planned parenthood but I do feel that the women are not having a voice in what is being done. The women should be deciding what parts of their clinic are being defunded and not the government. This is an example of how women are not heard as equally as the men in today's society.

Week 9
I just read a story about a female woman who was killed defending our country. I am reminded of how far women have come to be able to defend our country. I am proud to be an American and grateful to have so many freedoms especially when I am constantly reminded of how women around the world are treated so unequally and are deprived the rights as not only a woman, but a a living person. Thankful for this young woman's service.

Week 8
Recently, trump has allocated money to prevent illegal immigration. I think immigration is how this country has become as diverse as it is and do not want to see immigration stop. That being said, a lot of times I will hear people talking about how Trump is racist towards minorities and use his stance on illegal immigration to support this claim. Whether Trump is racist or not is not what I am trying to say, but his policy on illegal immigration does not support that he is racist. As a country, I feel we should welcome people from all over, of all different types, however I believe this should be done within the laws set by this nation. Furthermore, allowing people to come here illegally is unfair to the immigrants that DID come here legally.

Week 7
I was reading about how European Court Justice ruled that work places could ban staff from wearing visible religious symbols. I thought this invoked upon the rights as citizens but was then quickly reminded how different it is to live in a country as great as the U.S. and how other countries don't have the religious freedoms and rights as I do.

Week 6
As I was driving to my hometown of Macon, leaving Athens, I saw a car with a sign taped to where a window would normally go that said, "All Trump Voters go to He double hockey sticks". I was very disturbed that someone would show this much hatred toward anyone for any reason, especially political.

Week 5
This week I went to Tate and watched a movie called Loving which was about the effects of being an interracial couple during a time when blacks and whites were not legally allowed to be together. It was very moving and reminded me of Wedding Band.

Week 4
I am very stressed out with exams this week so I went to a church service thinking that it might take some of the stress off and it did! I thought it was very cool how people of all races, genders and socio-economic status came there for the same purpose. The energy at that church service was amazing.

Week 3
During this week, I had an interview to be a Resident Assistant here at UGA and I had to talk about how diversity has impacted my life. I said that the diversity at UGA has humbled me and broaden my view of the world. Hopefully, I get the job!!

Week 2
After seeing the movie, Hidden Figures, I am further reminded about the struggle of African American and white women to achieve equality. This movie was about African American women who worked for Nasa. The interesting part is that I have never heard of the achievements of these women until now.

Week 1
I was recently talking to an adult female (anonymous) and they were telling me about their salary versus someone with less job experience and education but was a man in her same position. Her job deals with payroll and thus she can see who gets paid what. This man in her same position was making 20k more than she was. She was furious and I could completely understand. She is currently suing the company she works for and I hope he wins! This is a clear example of how women and men are not treated equally, especially in the work force.
